Link Leaks Abound At Simplenomics
I’ve already given myself credit for having coined the term ” link leak “. Having done so, I guess I’d better do some more and hopefully some others will do so as well and link back to my post that defines the term link leak.
Today I found a new blog via Life Hack and I’m gonna start a little Link Leak Virus.
While I’m at it, I might as well drop the Link Leak Virus on someone I KNOW will spread this dude. Or I hope he does, since I spread his Indie Virus like the wild dog of a blogger that I am.
And since all good things, except wives, come in threes, like my three daughters, I’m gonna drop one more Link Leak Virus on somebody. And since there won’t ever be three of them, I dropped it on the only wife I’ll ever have !
So there you have it. Three Link Leak Viruses have been dropped like a bad habit. Let’s see if any of them take the reins and drop three more on some unexpecting bloggers.
If you do spread this dude, please use Leak Link Virus as the anchor text, so I’ll be able to track this puppy !
I already have 3 more in mind and I might just drop the hammer about 6 AM CST tomorrow on the next batch of unsuspecting bloggers !

Very novel idea. Way to go Mike! I’m going to watch the “link leak virus” spread using Technorati right now.
I can only hope you get to watch it spread !

It’s aliiiiiiive! Very nice viral, Mike. How are you charting this - are you watching it in BlogPulse, Technorati, PubSub, etc?
Technorati and Google are the only two ways I watch it.
If you can give us an update in any other way, how about you do a post and I’ll link to it !
As of now there 467 returns in Google for Link Leak Virus…as opposed to zero beforhand.
I’m tickled to have added a couple of links to me, although it will take Technorati several days to catch up with us.
The best part is that there are more and more bloggers letting go of some link love !

You do realize don’t you that you have no follow on your comments? So I really don’t understand your phrase link leak. You are not really leaking anything or am I wrong?
Hi Jude,
(Yes, I read your about page)
No-Follow in the Comments is to protect my rep. If the Google Bot comes by and someone’s blasted my comments with their sleazy links, I don’t need that kind of Link Love.
The links in the posts are very much live. If I linked to you, you’d see it in your server logs.
If I linked to a post, you’d get a Trackback, if your CMS recognized those, as yours does.
So to answer your question, yes ma’am, you’re mistaken.
Google “Link Leak Virus” and you’ll see all the people it affected. No doubt they wouldn’t be there if not for the live links.
Here’s a great little explanation on Google’s own Official Google Blog -
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2005/01/preventing-comment-spam.html
Thank-you for explaining and I did read the page you directed me to, but doesn’t Akismet catch most of the spam? I know it does on my blog since I initialized it plus the bad behavior plug-in. I was trying to work it out after I had made the post and I visited one of the blogs above and then it hit me after seeing his blog and what he posted. Sorry for my stupidity.
That wasn’t stupidity Jude, that was life happening while you were typing !
It mostly happens to me while I’m speaking.
Akismet does a good job, but it’s not perfect. I prefer perfect most of the time, so I don’t depend on it.
Thanks for commenting and come back soon.
